Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said that if the environmentalist movement wants more participation, they need to make it sexier.

This statement inspired Key West eco-activist and radio host Erika Biddle to celebrate Earth Day's 40th birthday with a very special fund raising project to benefit community gardens in the Florida Keys.

The Women Sustaining the Earth calendar features fifteen ageless Keys women who are engaged in individual and collective activities to protect and nourish nature. Starring the places as well as the faces, the models were photographed on location at Nancy Forrester's Secret Garden, the Key West Tropical Forest & Botanical Garden, The Key West Garden Club at West Martello Tower, The Gardens Hotel, and at Geiger Key (named after the Geiger tree - which was named for Captain Geiger by John James Audubon).

We believe that 2010 will mark the launch of an era devoted to a whole new way of living and of doing business sustainably, and in this spirit, the Women Sustaining the Earth calendar is printed on recycled paper using soy inks. May you find a creative re-use for its pages in 2011.
